Dean Finds More Family History

How Much History Can One Man Find?

Apparently a lot! This time on Dean’s last visit he found an envelope stamped and dated from Smallman & Ingram in London Ontario where his grandmother Mabel used to work. Mabel was born in 1891 and started working at Smallman when she was only 8 or 9 years old. She eventually moved on to Kingmill’s and then finally to Simpsons/Sears because they paid her five cents more a week! There she stayed and was the oldest living employee making it all the way to 103. I guess it’s true what they say. Hard work pays off – at least five cents more a week anyways. 😁. The other day, Dean got the shock of his life while shopping in the store like he usually does. He’s a regular here and we were all beside ourselves when he showed us what he found.

A picture of himself as a boy! You know you’re an antique when…. hahaha. Sorry, Dean.

As a boy, he always stood at the bow of what was to become a family boat in Port Dover- And there he is! Is that a fantastic find or what? What an eye he has to have found it! We love it! Thank you so much for sharing your joy with us!

We’re a Hidden Gem!

We had the rare and enjoyable opportunity to be featured as a hidden gem on our local radio station! It’s always fun for us to be discovered as a new place to shop, eat and hang out! Listen to our interview.

Thank you to everyone who came to our Open House last weekend, all the little ones and especially the Potter Gang because man, they know how to live it up! 🙂
